ELEMENTS & PRINCIPALS of DESIGN 

​

The elements and principals of design are essential to understanding and creating great works of art.  In photography it is important to see how theses elements appear and can be captured in the natural world.  Once you begin looking around, you will discover that theses details can be found almost anywhere.

Assignment: 

Using the basic principals of photography, concentrate on photographing the basic elements Line, Shape, Texture, & Pattern. Your composition should have at least one of these elements as the primary focus.   Also focus your attention on photographing shadows and reflections as individual subjects.  Challenge yourself to explore unique vantage points, and include multiple elements within the composition. 

 

 

Final Product:

6 - Finished images expressing Line, Shape, Texture, Pattern, Shadows, & Reflections 

-  All Photos uploaded with written reflection on blog.

- Include camera settings (ISO, Aperture, & Shutter) for each photograph.

- Include and label unedited and finished edited version of each photo on blog 

1 - Digital image (JPG) submitted to Shared Google Folder on time for critique.  

1 - Digitally mounted ready for printing.

 

Tips to Remember: 

-       Bracket your images!  (Over expose, under expose, and even exposure) 

-    Make sure your subject is sharp

-    Fill the frame with the important elements

-    Use the rule of thirds as your guide for composition
